How I can be a professional poker player?
If I wanted to be a "professional" poker player, how do I start? Online Tournaments? local tournaments? Is there anywhere I can go to find more information? Or should I take my 10k buy event tickets main hope of making the final table (or at least in the money). I think I'm just trying to find out if there is a place where I can find out more about the desire to take poker seriously rather than just watch on TV.
Playing "professionally" is much stronger and a hell of a lot less glamorous that most people think. A number of factors to consider. The largest, though possibly less discussed, the factor is the rake. All online casinos or otherwise, the cash and inclination games registration fee is required at tournaments. Some are reasonable and can be overcome by a truly skilled player, other are excessive and should definitely be avoided. And curiously, it may be difficult to determine the difference without considerable control. Another major difficulty is the administration money. It is very common for a player is at a peak, maybe even a long beak, and do well just to return all his winnings in a single session or a small handful session. Or, possibly, to spend the proceeds of booty only to go on a cold streak and losing what little he left bankroll to continue playing. Others have done well, but lost everything when they have raised their limits a bit too high only to run into a competition that they can not win, but who refused to leave limits down. And yet others may win a few tournaments, but gets sunk tax time when they are forced to pay excessive taxes on profits are forced to claim (and can not be successfully denied the satisfaction of an IRS auditor, alleging loss.) casino playing poker "professionally" for a time some years ago – before today most of the players had heard of Hold'em – so perhaps I can help to some point. Today, however, just completed the game during free time only. It keeps me sane and most importantly, allows me to explode the profits in entertainment or things that would otherwise not be bought without fear of depreciation of my bankroll more than it should. Start with the game limit. Do your homework first! Read everything may be limited by the low. Forget about the tournaments and everything at stake. Learn (or re-learn) the most basic foundations as they apply to all the games you may find yourself in. Commit to the memory of the importance of the position, pot odds, aggressive play, etc – all the basics. TIGHT PLAY! Seriously, play, so strongly almost makes you puke. Rarely is a good player always profitable enjoy the game – should be a routine, maybe even a can. Get real used to learn to bend and fold hands of the monster is going to lose. BET NO ONE EVER CALL YOU DO NOT KNOW! Know your competition and learn from them. If you're playing in a casino, this is not too difficult, but if you're playing online can be more difficult. If you are playing online, not to surf the Internet, walk to his team during hands are not in, etc. Watch and learn how others play – specifically what hands they play, for what positions and how to play. Use this information to their benefit. Do not waste time trying to read the faces of the people. Meet and learn about yourself. Know your limits and analyze their mistakes. For example, when you get your aces broke Did you bring itself by not raising before the flop? Have you called a raise pre-flop with K-9 at some point make a straight, only to lose to a higher law by AK exploitation (the same guy who argue that there should never be called to begin with)? In "The Art of War", the fourth century BC China strategist War Sun Tzu wisely said: "Know your enemy and know yourself and in a hundred battles, never perish." It must have been a poker player. Reread the two preceding paragraphs. See what I mean? Keep books, but not "cook"! By this I mean keeping track of your game. Tracking how is gained or lost along with the time played every session. No "forget" to record a session, because it took an astronomical challenge the odds beat or two sessions so that was an anomaly and should not count. When you're winning, consistently, rather than one big bet per hour, you doing well. Over time you may consider covering their bets a bit more cash to play a limit game. Go for it, but only if you can afford. I would recommend to play in a limit where the conventional buy-in (usually 20-40 times the big bet) is not more than 5% of your bankroll. Not too eager to climb limits too high or too fast. And if, after uploading your limits, you are lost, for the love of God, falls down and start playing poker win again! If you is capable of doing these things, and makes for a profit, start entering some tournaments. Of course, the strategy will vary a bit, but you will already be equipped with the tools for how and when to vary your play. In tournaments, find what works for you and run with it. As an ultra-tight and good heads-up no-limit player, I prefer tournaments a table on which almost always end up in the rarely lose money and once face to face (so even if behind the start). If you are good at harassment to the right of the door perhaps multi-table tournaments are more your speed. Another note about the tournaments, if you win big or accumulate a certain amount of profits in the course of a year in a casino real, you are required to claim the winnings. For that reason, you may consider limiting their online tournament play. If you prefer the creation of the casino, however, use your ATM card there often and keep all of the withdrawal slips. You can use the tests like you would write for gambling losses in case you get audited. Tournaments last note: Remember that you can not get up and walk away after a big score in a game as you cash! Sorry, this has been a bit long, but there is much (much, much more than just what I wrote) to examine and learn before playing "professionally." It is hoped that helped. Good luck!
